Church Fields is one of Ireland’s largest affordable and cost-rental housing developments, delivered by GEM Construction on behalf of Fingal County Council as part of a major affordable and cost-rental housing programme.

Secure, well-designed cycle storage formed a key part of the development’s sustainability strategy, with infrastructure required across the scheme to support hundreds of residents and encourage active travel.
The architectural specification presented a unique challenge. Each cycle enclosure had to incorporate a full-height brick pier through its centre while supporting a bespoke dual-pitch roof manufactured to precise angles, matching the surrounding apartment buildings.

Several suppliers were unable to achieve the required geometry or successfully integrate the brickwork into the structure.

Head-Wind engineered, manufactured and installed six bespoke security cycle enclosures, delivering a solution that met the architect’s vision without compromise. Across the development, the installation incorporates 14 individual lockable cycle storage compartments, each with capacity for up to three bicycles, alongside a dedicated cargo bike store designed to accommodate larger cycles and family bikes. Built entirely from hot-dip galvanised steel with heavy-duty mesh construction, each enclosure provides secure, low-maintenance cycle storage designed for decades of use. The completed installation combines high-capacity semi-vertical cycle parking with robust access-controlled security, demonstrating Head-Wind’s ability to solve complex engineering challenges while delivering practical, attractive infrastructure at scale.
